ART IS TRANSFORMATION
What did this past semester allow you to realize?

I like mixed media more than I thought I would. I also don't like painting as much as I thought I did. Mostly because I can't get any of the colors I want...That's why I really miss making digital art!

What is your best piece and why? Your worst and why?

My best piece is probably the Seeds and Threads one. It just turned out really well and I spent a lot of time on it all at once. It was also pushing my comfort zone while not being totally unfamiliar, so it was a sweet spot. My worst piece is probably the Art and Text project. It just wasn't all that unique and I am kind of bored with it.

How have you improved? What do you need to work on?

I have gotten better with mixed media. I still need to work on my precision and planning. I also want my colors to be better, I am struggling to make them work in a way I am satisfied with.

What media/stylistic direction/content do you want to explore? Why?

I think I just want to make non-traditional art? I want to keep making weird stuff. I don't really want to practice my technical skills, I want to make interesting things regardless of the skill of the craft.

Who are some artists you will be looking at in that pursuit? Why are they important to you?

That is a really hard question. I kind of like Louis Wane. I am usually drawn to particular images rather than artists as a whole. Honestly, though, I like being inspired by my classmates.

Does your work have a conceptual imperative (ideas) or is it purely formal (visual) or a combination of the two? If so, in what way?

Probably more the second one. I think the ideas I express through my art are very private and I am not trying to convey them so that they are understood by the viewer. For that reason, they only exist in my head regardless, so creating art out of them is more of a purely visual experience. Any conceptual aspect of it is just an expansion of my thoughts, not so much an intention of the work. Maybe sometimes I am trying to convey a message, but I don't think it's very often.

What would you like your audience to receive from your work?

I'm definitely happier if I don't have to worry about how an audience will receive my art. Anyways, I guess I most want them to intepret it however they want. Just because I made it doesn't mean the ideas I have about it are more correct than the ones they might come up with.

What would you feel most proud of/what would you like to make or achieve by the time you install your show in April? In other words, how do you envision your show in April, generally or specifically?

I have no idea right now. I am not that worried about being too ambitious with it, as long as I am happy with the products and I am having fun with the class. Maybe if I come up with a really good idea, I'll get super invested.
